Making the decision to become a foster care parent with our agency is a big commitment.

Foster homes and families are carefully selected.  Families interested in becoming foster parents go through an orientation and pre-service training process.

Getting Involved

Second Home conducts informal meetings each month where interested families gather to learn more about our programs and services, foster care and the family licensing process.  The meeting is extremely beneficial in helping to make this very important decision.

The next meeting is scheduled for (click here).

Training Programs

Once the decision to become a foster family has been made, a 40-hour     pre-service training session, including the Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting: Group Preparation and Selection Process as well as an introductory course in working with children with emotional disturbance, is required for licensing.  This process helps families develop their strengths, resources, and their ability to have successful outcomes.
